Drew received his heart and was doing very well until today. Unfortunately, he has suffered a minor set back. His parents have posted this message asking for continued prayers and support for Drew. Please take a moment to say a special prayer for Drew so that he can continue to fight!

An Upsetting Setback…

Dear Friends, Family and supporters of Drew,

We are so sorry to tell you that tonight around 6pm, we met with a Neurologist who confirmed that sometime in the last 6-12 hours, Drew suffered a stroke. This came as an enormous shock to everyone, because he had been recovering so well and the function of his new heart was getting better each day.

They have no idea what might have caused the stroke—possibly a clot—but nothing has been confirmed yet. The MRI showed a right cerebral cortex stroke, which is obviously not good, BUT they initially thought the stroke might have been in his brain stem, which would have been much, much worse. In addition, the doctors are actually very optimistic that the recovery from this type of stroke in children can be quite good.

They next 3 days will be critical to mitigating the effects of the stroke, as well as observing Drew’s brain function and EEG/MRI results. They are also obviously concerned that he could potentially suffer another stroke and/or seizures and are watching closely for both.

While we are devastated by this set-back, we were encouraged tonight to see Drew ‘flailing around’ and waving his arms and legs (and trying to hit the EEG tech with is arm while he was attempting to stick the EEG wires on Drew’s head ) and trying to remove his breathing, tube, PIC lines, etc… At least we were able to see that, as usual, Drew continues to fight on.

We should have more information in the coming days and will let everyone know as soon as the doctors are able to provide us with any additional insight. For now, we must do the most difficult thing in the world, and ‘wait’ to see what tomorrow brings.

Please say an extra prayers tonight for little Drew and also for us…this has been a tough blow to our resolve that ‘it will all be OK’ but we continue to hope for the best.

With love and thanks,

Todd, Tara and Drew

A few weeks ago, I boarded a plane to sunny Arizona for a shoot with a longtime friend’s new baby. While I was out there, I also had the privilege of meeting Drew, an adorably precocious two-and-half year old who probably knows more about baseball than any other kid I know. In fact, it wasn’t until we hauled out some baseball gear that he started to warm up to the camera a little bit … but we only spent a short time outside before the Arizona heat convinced us to head indoors for a popsicle and a break. The fact is, Drew wasn’t really in the mood to be chased around by a stranger with a camera. He was tired — and with good reason: Drew was recently diagnosed with Cardiomyopathy, which means his heart is failing. His body tires quickly, but Drew is a fighter. He and his parents are patiently waiting for a new heart, a gift that will allow him to enjoy his life the way every child should: to run tirelessly, to hit his first home run, to keep up with his friends. So if you have a moment..please think good thoughts for Drew and say an extra little prayer that he keeps fighting. I know his family and friends would love any extra love he can get.

UPDATE: I was informed that Drew went into cardiac arrest last Thursday and was put on life support…still waiting for a heart. Today I was also updated and told that he is in surgery right now…receiving a new heart! Keep fighting sweet boy..we are all praying for you!!

Oh, this sweet little boy! He had a traumatic delivery..even got a little bruised on the way out. However, ever since he has been home, he has been sleeping away! I flew down to Arizona to get his shots. He was so sweet and tiny…with his little fingers and toes all all his baby smells. Mmmmmmm…..

I also wanted to note that I used Kristen Rachelle’s new action set on these!! She has a new set out called FRESH BLEND and they ROCK!! Peachy Keen and vintage crush are two of my favorites!! So be sure to check them out on her FACEBOOK page and her ACTION WEBSITE too! :)
